What are Green Buildings?
Buildings (Commercial or Residential) are one of the main dominant consumers of natural resources, having a major environmental impact during one‘s lifetime. As we understand and accept the impact of the constructed buildings on environment, we need to ensure appropriate usage and functioning of the resources used in a building.
This process of mindfully using resources in a building is seen as an effort towards creating a green environment. The buildings constructed using this approach are green buildings –
Thus the need of the hour is to construct as many Green Buldings as possible to minimize the load and demand from natural resources.
What is a Green Building Rating System?
Rating System is an evaluation tool measuring environmental performance of the building through its life cycle – Things that are measured can also be controled. It usually comprises of criterias established to measure performance of a building on various parameters Eg. Design, Construction and Operations of the Building. Each criteria is measurable against an predetermined bench mark performance based on which rating points are been awarded to the building against each criteria. All points achieved are been added up to arrive at the project rating .
Globally, Green Building rating systems are largely voluntary in nature – but gaining increased importance as more spaces are been developed with GREEN considerations.
